From Africa to Japan
written on the 26.06.2024As June draws to a close, so does the school year at La Maison. The last few days before summer gave way to a wonderful outing for the children aged 7 and over who attend school at La Maison. A real moment of discovery!
Between adventure and discovery
At the invitation of the École des Roches, around twenty children from La Maison set off from Massongex in the direction of Bluche, downstream from the resort of Crans-Montana. The famous international hotel management school wanted to offer a recreational activity to the residents of La Maison.
“An activity of this kind is part of our social responsibility project, entitled Les Roches, We Care 4 Others, for which we organise various events in collaboration with the local community. We’re very keen to offer unique moments that put a smile on faces,” explain Danielle Nendaz, coordinator of the activity, and Giovanni Odaglia, site manager.
“This outing is a real adventure, especially as school excursions are rare at La Maison”, explains Tania Kébé, head of the educational sector at La Maison de Terre des hommes Valais.
The change of scenery begins with the journey and the arrival in a breathtaking landscape on the heights of the Rhône Valley: a first for the children. On site, the children were welcomed by the École des Roches Food & Beverage team, who had organised workshops for them to discover new flavours.
Opening up to the world through Japanese culinary art
The children were able to take part in sushi making and non-alcoholic cocktail making workshops. This new and fun activity allowed them to get away from their everyday lives, immerse themselves in another culture and discover the art of Japanese cuisine.
“The preparation of cocktails and sushi was really fun for them. Most of the children at La Maison come from African countries. With this activity, we can really talk about an opening up to the world, a leap from Africa to Japan”, says Tania Kébé. “It is a memorable moment for them, punctuated by laughter. You can see the joy on their faces,” adds educator Anja Bernard. “It was a wonderful day,” concludes Maurice, a resident who took part in the outing.
Outlook for the summer
This outing to Bluche brings the school year to a close in style and kicks off the summer activities. In July and August, La Maison will be operating at a different pace. Instead of the usual school activities, the children will enjoy the great outdoors through games, walks and picnics.
We hope they have a great summer, and we wish you the same, dear readers!
